This is probably not going to be much of an entry, because I am only just starting to write it, and it is midnight.

This is because we have had a busy evening. We have been dashing around like a shoal of mackerel when a penguin unexpectedly jumps in.  I am very pleased indeed about this, because last night was very quiet. Nobody was in Bowness at all, because it was the night of the Torchlight Procession in Kendal.

We stopped going to this when somebody who knew about Health and Safety joined the council, and they banned the torchlight part of it, which I thought made it boring. You can dress up as Goofy as much as you like, but you are never going to be really thrilling without the possibility that you might accidentally set your ears on fire.

Hence I never take much notice of when it is on, and so it was something of a surprise when last night our joint takings would barely cover the fuel, never mind finance the rest of my extravagant lifestyle.

This is going nicely, did I tell you that I bought some new batteries for my computer keyboard this week?  It is all happening here.  I had a taxi-rank online retail therapy binge and as well as the batteries I bought some candle wax for making new candles. I save all of our old candle stubs and melt them down as well, in order to  feel virtuous about my housewifely economy, but every now and again some further expenditure becomes necessary.

I was excited about the candle wax. This is because not much happens in Windermere. You can get different types of wax depending what sort of candle you are making. I have got soya wax, because it holds the scent well, and some interesting perfumed oils, and later on this week I will be combining the two into glorious hedonistic candles to make the winter evenings lovely.

These combination of these two factors, the reckless expenditure and the quiet night, resulted in me waking up this morning feeling worried about money.

I had forgotten all about the torchless procession, and I woke up obsessing about the winter arriving early and the hard times being already upon us.

I was more relieved than I can tell you when I reached the taxi rank this evening to discover that there was a customer standing there waiting for me. I like this much better than the other way around even though it does not leave me with much opportunity to write to you.

It is now three in the morning and I am going to have to stop writing because the nightclub is throwing everybody out. We have been very busy indeed.

I can only apologise that the only thing you have learned about my day’s activities so far is from the picture, because when  we took the excited dogs around the Rec this morning, we collected lots of tree seeds.

These were mostly conkers and acorns, and Mark collected some copper beech as well.

When we got home I planted them all in little pots. There were about fifty of them. With any luck they will grow and be the start of our woodland plantation on the field.

That is what I was doing in the picture.

PS. The title is a bad pun. I wanted something with the word ‘seed ‘ in it, and although I wasn’t sucking it, and it is spelt differently I thought it would do. Sorry. It is very late at night.
