I think I have almost finished.

Slowly, from underneath the teetering piles of clutter in the loft, some neatly packed trunks are beginning to emerge, like the statue of Galatea from inside the heavy chunk of dusty white marble. Slowly, slowly, the excess is beginning to crumble away and be dumped in the dustbin, and what remains is a complete Schoolboy Kit, simply waiting for somebody to breathe a muddy September life into it.

I have even written to Matron wondering if she knows where all the rest of his sheets might be.

I have sewn labels into underpants and loops into towels. I have replaced shampoo and toothpaste and blister plasters. I have let down the sleeves of his jacket and turned up the legs of his new tracksuit trousers.

He is back at school in two weeks from today.

It is not quite finished. He still needs some new socks and trainers, but these things are mere details.

Lucy’s Entry

Mum has had to depart to bed early today due to not feeling very well, she has a migraine and has completely neglected finishing her diary for today so I have been tasked to finish this entry.

I must admit that I am not very familiar with what needs to be completed in order to ensure Oliver is ready for school in a few weeks so I apologise if you were looking for a more detailed entry about that particular process. Listening to mum and Oliver talk about it certainly makes me feel relieved that my own boarding school days are over and that I no longer need to sew my name into my clothes anymore for fear that they may be lost in the washing.

Apart from that, I don’t really have much to add about today, it’s been a rather sluggish few days since being home and I’ve not been desperately productive.

We went on a family walk this morning with the dogs, and we ambled around the park at a gentle pace and enjoyed the fresh air. Mum and I then set about cleaning the upstairs bedrooms while Dad and Oliver made breakfast. So we had lovely clean bedrooms and lovely bread, fish and sausages for breakfast.

We got on with the day in a meandering sort of way, I sat at my computer and debated the benefits of trying to learn Italian. Oliver was in his bedroom gaming and dad has been saying something about solar panels which I’m sure have kept him occupied today.

This evening we watched a film about magicians robbing a bank which was very interesting. The film is called Now You See Me.

I’ve added my personal favourite picture of the dogs since I didn’t think to take a picture today.
