I am on the taxi rank, and it is very busy. Lots and lots of people have come to the Lake District, encouraged by the wonderful sunshine and the smell of spring in the air. They have all been enjoying the rural outdoors in the pub beer gardens all afternoon, and now we are being kept excitingly occupied returning them to their guest houses.

This is brilliant, because of course we do not have any money, as usual.

I am hoping very hard that we have a profitable night, because of having had a soporific hour shopping on Amazon this afternoon. I did not actually buy anything, but put lots of things that I liked the look of into my virtual cyber-basket ready for later. I thought I might show Mark and see what he thought when we had a quiet moment on the taxi rank this evening but when I came to look I discovered that Lucy had taken everything out again. I am not sure if this is for reasons of taste or because she just wanted to buy something of her own and did not want to have to purchase all of my things when she got to the checkout.

I would like some new clothes.

Mark lent me his belt this morning so that my trousers would not fall down whilst I was running, but it is not a perfect solution. Either I am actually getting thinner or the elastic part of the fabric weave has perished. Either way it is a nuisance.

I would like to think that I am getting thinner, but I don’t really believe that I am. It is a long time since I bought any new jeans, and I am sorry to say that I think that they have just been through too many hot washes.

In any case every single pair has got paint on it somewhere, from last year’s camper van illustration project.

I would like some new ones very much indeed.

Hence I am very pleased to see our influx of sun-seeking tourists.

If they all want taxis we will be able to afford some new trousers as well as the mortgage. I am feeling very hopeful indeed.

It has been the nicest of lovely days. It has been warm and mild and golden.

I had a splendid run up the fell this morning, breathing in the spring air and not hitching my trousers up. The new grass is coming, there are worm casts everywhere, and the birds are very busy indeed. I watched a mummy and a daddy bird trying to make some eggs this morning. They were very noisy about it, if they lived in a house they would soon start getting complaints from the neighbours.

Mark and Lucy declined to accompany me. Mark said that he had got to clean the taxis, and Lucy said that she had got to watch YouTube and loaf about.

When I came back the garden was sunny and warm, and Mark was tootling about happily in the shed, creating bits for his new hydrogen exploder which will eventually go into the camper van.

We pottered around for a while, which was when I became distracted by wishful cyber-shopping, but of course it is Saturday and there is not really very much time because of going to work.

After a short while we went back to bed. I am glad that we did this, because the night has turned into a very busy one, and we are perfectly well awake to cope with it.

There might even be some new trousers at the end of it.
