We have had a lovely day.

It has been lovely even though it is Saturday. Normally Saturday is filled with tiresome work things, we get ready for work and then we go.

This week we did not do this.

We decided to change our lives a little bit, to see if we could make the day feel a bit nicer. When we got up we did not empty the dogs in the Library Gardens and have walnut bread for breakfast the way we usually do. We went to the farm, where we dumped the dogs out of the car at the end of the field and they exercised themselves belting along after us all the way to the workshop. We often do this, it is fine unless something interesting happens on the way, in which case we might not see them again for ages.

When we got there the dogs charged off with the farm dogs being noisy idiots, and we measured the camper van bathroom.

Regular readers may remember that we took the bathroom out ages ago. There is a mere shell there now, with a wheel arch and some promisingly empty space.

We are approaching the point where we might be able to drive the camper van. In this case we will need a bathroom. I will definitely need one because since I have become elderly my internal plumbing is not quite as efficient as it once was. If we are sleeping in the camper van I do not wish to have to slope off outside in the middle of the night and wee underneath a tree.

Hence we have started considering our lavatorial arrangements.

We measured the bathroom carefully, because we have come up with several plans for the camper van that have turned out to be unworkable once we realised how small something actually was.

We sloped about for a few minutes, sighing regretfully about not being able to spend the rest of the day painting and hammering things, and then chucked the dogs back in the car and left.

A small extra happiness was the discovery of another jar of home made schnapps with pears in it. We took this home with us and added it to the bucket of dried fruit, the pears have been in the schnapps for about ten years now and should be splendid.

We left the car at home and had a walk over to the allotment, where we examined the newly-sprouted seeds with satisfaction and then scrambled up the banking and over the fence into Booths.

I am having a small uprising in consumer consciousness at the moment, and we are trying mostly to eat dinners that we know things about. This is things like meat from the butcher, which is expensive but tastes divine, we just have to eat a bit less. Also we have decided that Booths is a good place, because everything comes from farmers who have ethical arrangements with the supermarket and also have their photographs in the entrance. The potato farmer looks friendly.

We bought cheese. Booths does superb cheese. Also the lady at the cheese counter knows everything about it and can tell you which farm it has come from and what the dairy is like. This is impressive, because Booths has got a socially responsible employment policy, and some of the staff need a bit of extra help to understand what you are talking about.

All in all, we have decided that Booths is definitely the place to shop. What is more it is calm and tranquil and doesn’t give me outbursts of Asperger’s Syndrome. This was especially helped today because there was a lady by the door handing out free samples of toffee vodka, which made the whole experience doubly mellow.

We slid back down the banking with Mark’s pockets full of cheese, and went home, where we had a glass of wine, a massive pan of lamb risotto with reduced price ethical asparagus, and then went back to bed.

We stayed there and snored until it was time for work, and went to the taxi rank, where we sat happily in my taxi, drinking chai and cutting out and sticking scaled down toilets on to scaled down bathroom plans.

I am going to contemplate shower curtains when I have finished this. We have considered a Moroccan archway but decided that there is not enough space, so we are going to have a Moroccan shower curtain instead. This seemed like a good compromise. We have found a pink one which is splendid.

I am going to look at our scale drawings and work out how big it will have to be.

This makes being at work a happy event.

The picture is Number One Daughter. I think it is ace.
