I am only writing a short entry, because I didn’t get round to starting this until midnight. My eyes are closing and I am falling asleep, the day has carried on for longer than it should have done.

We were woken up at four this morning by one of the dogs needing to go out.

We were woken up again at six by the poopies squeaking because they wanted to come out of their imprisonment in the front hall.

After a while the squeaking became too strident to be ignored, and we reflected guiltily that there are people in the holiday house next door this week. We let the poopies out, an excited cascade of small bouncing creatures. They all weed on the carpet and then charged about growling and cuffing and tumbling over one another cheerfully, whilst we tried to go back to sleep.

They climbed all over my dog, who really doesn’t like poopies and who growled at them: and then growled louder.

After a while we got really cross with him, because it is not easy to sleep when there is a furious beast snarling its head off next to your bed.

By the time it got to coffee time we felt as exhausted as if we had been up all night. The dogs were all really delighted that we had finally emerged, and greeted us joyfully, with waving tails and happy faces, and were surprised and sad that we were not in the least delighted to have their company.

We got up and staggered about for a while, mopping up puddles and feeding everybody, and then bundled the whole lot into the back of the car to go over to the farm.

It turned out that the secure pen built for the poopies at the farm isn’t secure at all. Eventually we gave up trying to round them up and just let them get on with their own poopy lives: Fat White is now smeared with something black and oily which doesn’t come off, it is a good job we are not going to try and convince anybody that he will make a perfect pet.

We had a busy but rather sad day at the camper van.

We have realised that we just can’t work on the camper van and also earn midsummer money, there simply aren’t enough hours in the day. We had an entirely absorbing day doing lots of finishing off bits, so that it is at a good point to be left for a few weeks whilst we concentrate on making our fortune.

Of course it is not finished, or anywhere near, the bathroom and the wardrobe are still to be done inside, and then of course there is the engine. All the same, if we are going to leave a project for a while we find that it is best to leave it at a point where the next things to be done are interesting and easy, otherwise we put things off. We put lights in and Mark connected gas, so the kitchen is all working, and I finished the ceiling, and we did lots of tidying up, so that the space will feel nice to come back to.

It was half past ten when we got home, and we had cheese-and-olives dinner with the children and laughed a lot.

We were almost in the shower before I remembered I hadn’t written to you.

I’ve done it now. See you tomorrow.
