Still no kittens.

Poor Guffy.

We can hardly bear to look at her. She is a large, furry rugby ball with a tiny head at one end and a twitching tail at the other.

We had to clean her up again this morning. She fought savagely, but surprisingly, forgave us immediately it was over, and collapsed back into her weary vigil on the back of the sofa.

I have attached a picture.

Once that was done, and the resulting mess shoved into the stove, Oliver and I took the dogs out over the fells. The sun was shining, which was fortunate, because Mark is still dismantling my car.

He has been doing this all day, apart from a few moments when he had grown so cold that he had to come in and warm his hands by the fire, and it is still not dismantled. It is not looking as though I will be able to work in it at weekend at this rate. It is a long, long, wearisome job, and he is not having a very lovely time.

He had to stop this afternoon because he and Oliver had an appointment to take their suits to the tailor in Kendal.

They are being fitted for Lucy’s fast-approaching wedding. Both of their suits are wearable, but are not quite right, and of course if a suit is to look splendid then it must fit perfectly. Indeed, a badly-fitting suit is worse than no suit at all, you might as well go to Asda and get one from the clothes racks on the far side of the baby food aisle.

We are still in discussion about shirts. Mark has got several nice Turnbull and Asser shirts, only one of which has got an oil stain on it, but I do not think that they are the right colours, and so we are considering our options.

Oliver does not have a single Turnbull and Asser shirt because he has only just stopped growing, and we are not nearly stupid enough to purchase glorious clothes only to see them consigned to Ritalin Boy before he has even had chance to wear them.

We are also considering his options.

I will keep you posted.

I took advantage of their absence to have a long and satisfactory chat with my friend in the computer. She is engaged in a rather thrilling legal battle with the Mormon Church, whose literature is distributed in certain hotel rooms, but which contains several unpleasantly racist opinions. She has just come back from Salt Lake City, and I was desperate to catch up on her adventures.

Of course she had lots of stories to tell, all of which were thrilling, not least the dreadful account of a passenger who fell overboard from their cruise ship on the way home, the world is full of little tragedies. Also she appeared on a Podcast whilst she has been over there, which was to be released to the world tonight.

I have added the link to the podcast, because I am very proud of her, it is a scary thing to squabble with powerful people with lots of lawyers. I am sorry to say that it has made tonight’s diary entry another late and hasty affair, because of course I have been watching it instead of taking the dogs out and filling the stove with logs and washing the dishes.

What a multi-media bonanza tonight’s diary entry has turned out to be, how we are progressing with the trends, we will be on Tick Tock next at this rate.

For my part I told her all about France, but it paled into insignificance beside her stories of cruise ships and American adventures, and I came away feeling relieved at my own dullness, a night on a beached ex-cruise liner in Rotterdam was more than thrilling enough to give me indigestion

She is very brave. The Mormon Church is trying very hard to make her life unpleasantly difficult. I went away marvelling at her courage. I am not sure that I would be able to stand up so loudly and determinedly for the right and good thing, when I knew that the Other Side would take everything I had got in vengeance if I failed.

I have got everything crossed for her.
